We made it! Congratulations to all our students on a productive 2018. We have seen many gains made in key academic areas and have had plenty of triumphs on the sporting field, in STEM and in the Arts. My thanks goes out to all staff and our parent community who partner together to help our students succeed.
I would like to extend my congratulations to Nikki Spanner who has been permanently appointed as Deputy Principal at Forest Lake State School in 2019. Thanks to Nikki for her contribution to the Gumdale community and we wish her every success at Forest Lake.
On behalf of all of us at Gumdale State School, I wish you all a Merry Christmas and we look forward to a fantastic year together in 2019.

Prep News
Our Preps have been working on a Prep Library, Kids Cafe, Prep Art Gallery, Prep Museum and Prep Theatre. Students spent time on Friday experiencing each other’s projects - so much fun!

Prep B has been learning the 'ew' sound while reading 'Wombat Stew'. After making some 'stew' with water and mud the students worked in groups and wrote down the ingredients in their stew. They then returned to class to write and label what they wanted to put in their Wombat Stew. There was so much great learning and all students were engaged as they collaborated together.

Year 4 - 6 News

Graduation
Congratulations to our Graduating class of 2018! It was a wonderful evening celebrating the many achievements of our year 6 students. Parents and guests were treated to a dance performance before speeches were given by our outgoing student captains. Several awards for high achievement were presented by our sponsors and then students walked the stage to receive certificates. The students then sang a farewell song before celebrating with their families and friends. Thanks goes out to the year 6 staff and other support staff who made the evening an unforgettable one for our students.

Digital Technologies
iPad Classes 2019
Next year will see Gumdale expand the BYO iPad program to 16 classes across Year 2 to 6. Any new or existing families seeking information about the iPad program can access parent handbooks, documents, help guides and the 2019 App Lists from the school website on the front page “iPads @ Gumdale”. We also have a direct link to JB Hi-Fi Portal (use the code GSS2019) and the Apple Store for your convenience.
Those students who were in an iPad class this year, please take the time on the holidays to delete any old or unused apps, install the new apps for 2019, clean out the camera roll by deleting any photos not needed, back up the device and install any new iOS updates. We also advise students to create a home folder and school folder in their camera roll. Please sort all personal photos into the home folder.
We also advise all iPad students to set their password to 1111 upon their return to school. The IT specialist will be setting up the school’s Wi-Fi profile on your child’s device in Term 1 and requires quick and easy access to the device.
All 2019 iPad students need to return their Participation Agreement and Third Party Consent forms to the school office ASAP. We also require payment of the Digital Levy of $35 by the end of Term 1, Week 2. The levy covers your child’s subscription to Mathletics, Spelling City, Showbie, Typing Tournament and the EQ Lending Library for 2019. Individual access to these subscriptions would cost families approximately $140 but the school is able to access substantial discounts due to the large number of licenses we require. Further information about these subscriptions are located in the BYOD Parent Presentation located on the school website. Prompt payment and completion of the forms will ensure your child can access all aspects of the iPad Program from the start of Term 1.
