Code Camp at Gumdale – What a success!

Gumdale State School’s Code Camp during the holidays was a great success, attended by 23 students.
The kids created their very own game. They had a lot of creative control when designing levels and learned a lot about the language of code along the way! Overall, the kids were pretty stoked about the end products, and so were we. You can check out a couple of the games made by the students here:

‘Just One Thing’ – How Can I Help?
One of the things that make Gumdale State School such a great place is our active, friendly school community. We want to make sure every family (especially new ones) have the opportunity to get involved. Volunteering at school is a great way to meet new people, make friends and your kids get a kick out of seeing you at school. It especially shows your children the high value you place on their education.
We have over 600 families attending Gumdale State School. We would be extremely grateful if every family could nominate to do 'Just One Thing'. You do not have to be a member of the P&C to be involved. Becoming a member of the P&C gives you the ability to vote at meetings, but it is not a requirement if you simply want to help out. The aim of the P&C is to provide social, financial and community support to the school. In 2017 the P&C raised funds in excess of $94,000 which contributed to air-conditioning in classrooms (4), the school community fund, Tuckshop equipment such as double door fridges, hotboxes, cook top and hot chocolate machines . We are not a religion based group or charity, simply a diverse mix of parents and care-givers, helping the school, helping our kids.
On the following page is a list of 'things' that we would appreciate your assistance with. Please tick one box (or more if you wish) and place your contact details on the last page. Then return your letter to the school office as soon as possible so that we can collate the responses. When the time comes, someone from our P&C will contact you regarding participation.
If you are unable to help but would like to be kept up-to-date with activities and events organised by the P&C, please complete your contact details below and return this form to the school office.
Thank you in anticipation of your valuable help.
Yours sincerely,
Shaunesy Pegg
Gumdale State School P&C President

Tuckshop Staff

We would like to take this opportunity introduce to the school community the new Tuckshop Convenors who have now commenced in the Tuckshop for the beginning of Term 3. Please extend a very warm welcome Carol Matheson and Leanne McLennan.
Carol has worked extensively in the hospitality industry including being the head chef at numerous restaurants and cafés in SE QLD and Northern NSW. She recently relocated to the area to be closer to her family, with her grandson due to commence Prep at Gumdale State School in 2019. Carol is excited about providing nutritional, delicious and healthy food to the children attending Gumdale State School.
As many of you may already know, Leanne very ably helped the P&C out in the Tuckshop last term when our prior Tuckshop Convenor was unexpectedly unable to work. Leanne has a background in administration and evens management and had recently been volunteering in both the Uniform Shop and Tuckshop. Leanne has two (2) girls that attend Gumdale State School and is excited about making improvements to the Tuckshop for the benefit of all the children.

Gumdale – A Day on the Oval

Preparations are now well under way for the upcoming Gumdale - A Day on the Oval event taking place on Saturday 1 September. This family fun day is shaping up to be very exciting for the P&C to showcase to the community. Inflatables and animal farm for the kids, face painting, food trucks, live performances, GSS Year Level fundraising stalls and fireworks are all going to be part of the event. Stay tuned for event announcements commencing next week on the P&C Facebook page.
To help make the Gumdale – A Day on the Oval a successful major fundraising event, we are looking for support from the school community in the way of donations. If you're able to donate any of the following items, this will go a long way to enable the P&C to contribute funds to completing air-conditioning of the classrooms at the school. Items being requested are:-
PREP – Cake Stall ; drop by School Admin to collect cake trays and fill them with baked goods to be sold from the Cake Stall at the event. Cake tray drop off details to be advertised closer to the event.
YEAR 1 – Coloured Hair Spray – Are after donations of coloured hair spray. Drop any cans of coloured hair spray into the P&C Donations box in School Admin.
YEAR 4 – Lob-a-Choc - blocks of chocolate, multipack bags of mini chocolates, chocolate bars, boxes of chocolates – basically anything chocolate – to be donated. Drop your chocolate items to the P&C Donations box in School Admin.
STUDENT COUNCIL – Pre-Loved Books – Would love to have your good used books donated for their book stall. Drop off your books to either School Admin, Miss Pilgrim’s classroom or Mrs McAuliffe’s classroom.
The working party is also seeking some assistance with donations of equipment and services to assist making their event vision come to life. They would like to borrow a 30 Kva generator on a trailer which will be used to power up the stage for the live performances.
Also to make the fundraising stalls function after sunset they are in need of an Electrician to donate some of their time to set some marquees up with access to power and lights. This would also require some equipment such as the fluro light tubes and cable trays.
If you're able to help the P&C out and loan and of the equipment and/or services for Saturday 1 September, please get in touch by emailing pandc@gumdaless.eq.edu.au.
We can’t wait to see the local community get behind this event!

Don’t forget all meal orders for the Tuckshop for first and second breaks must be ordered through Flexischools by 8:30am each day. Only snacks, drinks and slushies are sold over the counter for cash (except for Prep students) during first and second breaks.
Students who have made an order to purchase something frozen, or a plain milk cup or something with custard or yoghurt, will need to come to the Tuckshop to collect the item. A green smiley face or a red star on your bag means you must bring the bag to the Tuckshop to collect the item which can’t be sent to your classroom.

Uniform Shop News
Mondays:- 8:15am – 9:30am
Thursdays:- 8:15am – 9:30am
The Uniform Shop now has all sizes of Hoodies available for purchase.
A reminder that the Uniform Shop has three everyday options for girls to wear with their GSS polo shirt. We stock a formal skort, everyday or sports skort and everyday unisex shorts. Our volunteers in the Uniform Shop can assist you with finding the right option for your child to wear.
Single use plastic bags will no longer be supplied in the Uniform Shop for over the counter purchases in line with Queensland’s total ban.
Donations of second hard uniform items which are in good condition are most welcome. A donations box has been placed outside the door of the Uniform Shop.
There is a small supply of second hand uniform items now available for purchase, prices as marked. Included in the items are some Prep hats if you’re looking to purchase a ‘spare’ hat for your child.
We still have a small selection of House Armbands available for purchase, unfortunately if your in Moreton we have sold out.
Don’t forget we are located on Level 1 of Block A so drop by and see our friendly volunteers when the shop is open.
