Message from the Principal

Gumdale State School
Acting Principal,
Susan Cowley
We’ve made it!
Welcome to the end of Semester one and the start of school holidays!
What a wonderful week it has been to end the term. The Gumdale State School Arts Show was incredible! I was astounded by the level of creativity and number of art pieces submitted for display. A huge thank you extends to Tracy McCredie as Chief coordinator, Miss Slater and Mrs Thomas for organising our student performers, our P&C for coordinating food vans and warm beverages for our guests – alongside staff, students and sponsors that came together to make this Arts Showcase a pinnacle event in Gumdale’s annual cultural Calendar.
At the same time, I wish to congratulate all of last week’s participants and winners that took part in our Year 3-6 Athletics Carnival. What a wonderful two days of comradery, team spirit and students striving to achieve their personal best. Congratulations to our age champions: Olivia W, Aden K, Jade P, Joyce K, Holly B, Kiahn F, Summer M, Loushus C, Emily H, William B, Joshua W and our winning house: Moreton! A full collection of photos and highlights are available for viewing on our Facebook page. The weather over these two days was splendid. Thank you to Mr Doherty, Miss Goddard, teachers, staff and YMCA for your involvement and assistance to make this Carnival a success.
As you all prepare to enjoy some much-needed rest and relaxation over the winter holidays, I encourage you all to pick up a book and keep reading. Or, join the upcoming Code Camp that will be held 2-4 July during the school holidays.
Finally, as many of you know, Mr Savill will be returning as Principal at the start of next term. Over the past 11 weeks, its been both a privilege and pleasure to serve as your Acting Principal. Gumdale State School has impressed me from the very first day I arrived. I can honestly say that this school is beautiful, inside and out. Many schools publicise their mission, vision and values - but not all are brought to life as they are here at Gumdale. Gumdale’s GROW values are evident all day, everyday; I can see them, hear them, and feel them. It has been such a pleasure to be part of a school community where Always our Best is embedded in the culture of the school.
Thank you to everyone for making my time here as your Principal so thoroughly enjoyable and rewarding. I look forward to keeping in touch with many of the wonderful Gumdale State School staff, and to watch the Gumdale students continue to GROW via your school Facebook page.
Please have a safe, enjoyable and relaxing holiday with your children.
Always our best!

Susan Cowley
Acting Principal
